DEMOCRATIC STRUCTURE

Democratic Organizing Architecture.

How Sangathan prevents autocratic takeovers, protects vulnerable members, and enforces genuine collective governance in Indian neighbourhoods.

Secret Ballot Voting

Tenants and minority residents frequently face intimidation from local muscle or dominant landlords. Sangathan provides end-to-end confidential voting so residents express their true voice without fear.

Quorum & Threshold Rules

Major decisions - such as levying colony maintenance dues or approving municipal settlement terms - require a verified quorum (e.g., 50% + 1 of resident households) to be legally binding on the collective.

Recall Provisions

Leadership is a temporary responsibility, not a permanent hereditary title. Any coordinator can be recalled if 30% of verified members petition for a fresh collective election.

Dual-Signatory Fund Management

No single person can withdraw or allocate colony emergency funds. Every expenditure requires cryptographic co-signing by both the Treasurer and an independent Resident Auditor.

Model Constitutional Bylaws

Adopt the Sangathan Standard Mohalla Constitution

A ready-to-use 4-page constitutional charter drafted by public interest advocates under Article 19(1)(c) of the Constitution of India. Clearly outlines member rights, dispute resolution, and annual general body procedures.
