Frequently Asked Questions.
Everything you need to know about starting an un-registered collective, constitutional rights, and data privacy.
Do we need a registered NGO or Trust to use Sangathan?
No. Sangathan was specifically designed for un-registered grassroots collectives, mohalla committees, student unions, and citizen coalitions. Under Article 19(1)(c) of the Constitution of India, citizens have the fundamental right to associate peaceably without government permission.
How does Sangathan differ from WhatsApp groups?
WhatsApp groups quickly devolve into forwarded noise, good morning greetings, and disorganized arguments. There is no dated filing system, no printable A4 parchas, no verified signature ledger, no anonymous voting, and messages are easily buried. Sangathan provides structured civic tools: written receiving records, RTI statutory timers, and verifiable citizen mandates.
What is the role of Bahujan Queer Foundation (BQF)?
Bahujan Queer Foundation is a Section 8 non-profit organization registered in New Delhi that incubates digital public infrastructure for grassroots communities. Active collectives on Sangathan can apply for non-financial community recognition and solidarity from BQF to bolster community credibility.
Is user data protected from government snooping and private tracking?
Yes. Sangathan runs on strict zero-ad, zero-third-party tracking infrastructure. We do not sell data to political consulting firms or data brokers. Organizers own their complete data ledger and can export or permanently delete everything at any moment.
